News From The Vale

Last time out, the Stones secured an excellent victory against Forest Green Rovers, sending them into the last eight of the FA Trophy. Speaking after the game, captain on the day, Enzio Boldewijn, said:

“I felt we were dominant in every area of the pitch, and I'm happy to have been a part of a performance like that.” You can find his full post-match reaction here, whilst Sean Adarkwa also gave his thoughts here.

The draw for the quarter-final was made on Monday afternoon, and the Stones have been pitted against Kidderminster Harriers, with the game due to take place on Saturday, February 28.

As a result of this extra game in the FA Trophy, our home game against Hartlepool United has been moved forward and will now take place on Tuesday, February 17th, with kick-off coming at 7:45pm.

Our man in form - Deon Woodman: The Stones’ defence has been the foundation of their success over the past few weeks, and Deon Woodman has been at the heart of the solidity at the back.

Woodman has hardly missed a minute of competitive action this season, putting in consistently excellent performances at the heart of the defence.

He dominated against the Dagenham and Redbridge attackers before putting in another defensively solid performance against Woking, where he, most importantly, scored the winning goal, his first of the season.

At The New Lawn, Woodman was once again imperious defensively, providing leadership and determination in the Stones’ backline, which frustrated the opposition attackers and allowed the Stones to secure a dominant three-nil victory against high-quality opposition.

Well done, Deon, keep it up!

The Opposition

Recent form: LLLLL

League Position: 17th

Eastleigh have endured a rather uninspiring campaign thus far. Kelvin Davis was replaced by Scott Bartlett as the Spitfires’ manager in September. After a fairly promising start, things have gone quite sour at the Silverlake Stadium in recent weeks.

The Spitfires have not won any of their last five games in all competitions, a run which started with a loss at home against Southport in the FA Trophy. Only Morecambe and Gateshead sit below them in the form table, and former talisman Paul McCallum has left the club to join Dorking Wanderers on loan.

Bartlett’s team sit a mere three points above the relegation zone, and will be looking to use Saturday’s contest as a chance to pick up just their fifth home win of the season.

The reverse fixture: When the two sides played each other in late September, it was Bartlett’s first game in charge of his new club. Unfortunately, the match will not live long in the memory of either fanbase, as the game ended in a goalless draw.

The match was also a momentous day for Olufela Olomola, who made his first start for the Stones since returning to the club.

Bartlett’s side started the game well, with McCallum and Aaron Blair having good chances early on, but neither attacker could hit the target.

Wealdstone came back into the game after the first 15 minutes, but the first half was extremely devoid of chances.

The contest looked to have livened up in the 51st minute after Aaron Pierre pulled down Olomola when the striker was through on goal, leading to the Eastleigh defender receiving a red card.

Despite having a numerical advantage, Sam Cox’s side were not able to create many chances. Sak Hassan looked dangerous in his 20-minute cameo from the bench, but no one was able to get on the end of any of his crosses.

The danger man - Aaron Blair: The Spitfires’ danger man, and top scorer this season, is attacker Aaron Blair.

The 25-year-old started the season in red-hot form and was named the danger man for the reverse fixture, but he then struggled with injuries for a period. Blair missed most of October and November through injury, before picking up another niggle following his return.

The former Maidstone United striker has found fitness and form in 2026, netting three times in five league games despite his team struggling overall.

Blair can play both through the middle and on the right wing, and this versatility gives Bartlett a lot of tactical flexibility, which could prove useful if they are to get back to winning ways.
