REACTION: "The Team Impressed Me" - Proud Skipper Boldewijn On Trophy Triumph

IMPRESSED - but not surprised - was captain Enzio Boldewijn's assessment of his Wealdstone team's performance as they completely controlled this Isuzu FA Trophy last 16 tie to run out 3-0 winners at Forest Green Rovers.

"To put in a display like that coming into it after two weeks off, the team impressed me today", said the versatile Dutchman.

"I felt we were dominant in every area of the pitch, and I'm happy to have been a part of a performance like that after having had a few games on the bench.

"We knew Forest Green would come out and be energetic after half-time, but because we kept our shape really well throughout the game we reduced them to crosses from wide and long-range shots.

"We also decided we would take some risk out of our play so that's why we went a bit longer more often from goal-kicks and free-kicks.

Boldewijn argued playing league opposition during pre-season led to a strong start to the campaign - and the ability to cope with the threat posed by ex-league sides such as Rovers.

"I look back at the beginning and we had many good performances against strong clubs," reflected the 33-year-old.

"The two wins against Southend stick in my mind - one in the league and one in the cup."

And depending on the quarter-final draw, Stones might have to overcome them again, with the Shrimpers one of four Enterprise National League clubs left among the eight teams still dreaming of winning at Wembley Stadium.

"I think to get anyone at home will be really good for us," added Boldewijn, who played on the right side of a back three during The New Lawn victory.

"We know our supporters will come in good numbers, just like they did today.

"It was great to be able to reward their travel with a big performance and a 3-0 win."

It was the Dutchman who grabbed the first of the trio; stealing in at the far post to head home from a Nathan Tshikuna corner.

He said: "We're quite a tall team this season so I feel like we should be doing well at set-pieces.

"Deon [Woodman] scored from a corner to win our last game against Woking, and I've just got round to the back post for this one. It was a great delivery and I also need to give Fela [Olamola] credit for a good block - but only because he reminded me about it!"

For now, though, it's onward with a busy league schedule, with five league fixtures before the Saturday February 28 Trophy quarter-final weekend.

"We can use this - definitely," argued Boldewjin.

"That's three wins in a row with three clean sheets in a row, and a few different players have been involved.

"We've now built back that confidence we lost a bit during our bad run so we can attack February's games.

"Although we had a good start, the rough patch in December got everyone a bit frustrated because we knew how we'd played earlier on.

"It's time to refocus on the league now because we've got important matches coming up."
