Finance & Business Analyst

Wealdstone Football Club

A rare chance to build the financial and commercial engine behind a historic football club entering a major growth phase.

The opportunity

Wealdstone Football Club is looking for a sharp, curious and commercially minded graduate to help build the financial and operational foundations behind the club’s next phase of growth. This is a role for someone who enjoys numbers, business, football and problem solving - and wants their work to matter quickly.

With roots dating back to 1899, recent major investment, a significant growth journey under way and a fresh appearance at Wembley Stadium in the FA Trophy Final, Wealdstone is entering an important new chapter. The club is also progressing plans for a new stadium, targeted for the 2030/31 timeframe, which will be central to its long-term ambition.

For the right graduate, this is not a narrow back-office finance job. It is a chance to get close to the action, work with senior decision makers, help professionalise how the club runs and build the kind of breadth most early career analysts do not see for years.

Why this role matters

At a club of Wealdstone’s size and ambition, good analysis does not sit in a report. It changes decisions. Your work will help the club understand where money is being made, where it is being spent, which ideas are worth backing and how to build a more sustainable commercial model for the future.

That means supporting everyday financial management but also helping answer bigger questions: how should we price tickets, where can we grow matchday revenue, what should the new stadium include, how can we make better use of technology and where can the club make smarter investment decisions?

Purpose of the role

To create the financial visibility, commercial insight and structured analysis that help Wealdstone make better, faster decisions across the club.

The role will support strategic decision-making across financial, commercial and operational initiatives, with a particular focus on improving reporting, strengthening business processes, analysing growth opportunities and supporting the economic case for the club’s future stadium.

What you will work on

1. Financial visibility and reporting

·      Help manage bookkeeping for core Wealdstone FC entities, including Wealdstone FC and our social club.

·      Support payroll, accounts payable, VAT returns and day to day financial processes.

·      Design and improve monthly management reporting so leaders can see performance clearly.

·      Use Xero and other tools to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy and create better insight.

·      Turn financial data into practical messages that are easy for non-finance people to understand.

2. Commercial and revenue analysis

·      Build models to support pricing decisions, investment cases and revenue growth opportunities.

·      Analyse performance across tickets, matchday revenue, food and beverage, merchandise, sponsorship, promotions and non matchday events.

·      Support customer and supporter analysis, including segmentation, demand forecasting and promotion effectiveness.

·      Identify where the club can improve profitability without losing sight of supporters and the community.

3. New stadium and major investment analysis

·      Support the analytical work required to shape the economic case for a future stadium.

·      Research best practice from other clubs, venues and community sports facilities.

·      Help define major planning assumptions, including capacity, standing/seating mix, premium areas, hospitality, food and beverage and 365 day usage.

·      Build scenarios that help the board understand options, trade offs, risks and long term value.

4. Data, dashboards and insight

·      Extract, clean and analyse data from multiple sources across the club.

·      Develop dashboards and reporting frameworks that give the board and management team a single version of the truth.

·      Produce concise one-page decision notes and visual outputs that make the answer clear.

·      Replace guesswork with evidence based thinking, while keeping recommendations practical and grounded.

5. Process improvement

·      Map how things work today and identify bottlenecks, friction, duplication and inefficiencies.

·      Recommend and help drive improvements across finance, operations and commercial activity.

·      Track the impact of changes, including revenue uplift, cost savings, time saved and improved control.

·      Help set new standards for how analysis, reporting and decision making are done at the club.

What you will produce

·      A monthly management reporting pack covering financial and operational performance.

·      Revenue and profitability dashboards across key areas of the club.

·      Business cases for major initiatives, investment decisions and new revenue opportunities.

·      Stadium planning analysis, benchmark research and option modelling.

·      Clear one-page board papers and decision notes.

·      A rolling view of improvement initiatives, benefits delivered and actions required.

What success looks like

Within 6-12 months, you should have:

·      Become the go to person for structured analysis across the club.

·      Delivered 3-5 high impact projects, such as pricing, cost optimisation, revenue growth, reporting automation or process improvement.

·      Improved the speed, quality and confidence of financial and commercial decision making.

·      Built clearer management reporting across revenue, cost, profitability and cash visibility.

·      Played a meaningful role in defining the economic assumptions behind the future stadium.

·      Helped move the club from intuition and spreadsheets towards evidence, dashboards and repeatable processes.

Who we are looking for

You do not need years of experience. You do need evidence of potential.

This role would suit a graduate or early career analyst from finance, accounting, economics, business, mathematics, data analytics, sport management, engineering, computer science or a related discipline. We are also interested in people who can show they have built strong analytical skills through placements, projects, internships, societies, side projects or self directed learning.

You will thrive here if you are

·      Analytical - you enjoy finding the story inside the numbers.

·      Commercial - you care about what analysis means for revenue, cost and growth.

·      Curious - you ask good questions and want to understand how a football club really works.

·      Practical - you can move from model building to making something happen.

·      Confident with detail - you care about accuracy, control and getting the basics right.

·      Clear in communication - you can explain complex things simply.

·      Comfortable with responsibility - you want to be trusted, stretched and close to senior decisions.

·      A team player - you understand that in a growing club, everyone rolls their sleeves up.

Helpful skills and experience

·      Strong Excel skills, including modelling, analysis and structured reporting.

·      Experience with Xero or a similar accounting system would be helpful.

·      Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, Looker, SQL, Python or similar tools would be a bonus, but is not essential.

·      An understanding of basic accounting, financial reporting and business performance measures.

·      Ability to build clear presentations, dashboards and written recommendations.

·      Interest in football, sport, venues, live events or community clubs.

Why join Wealdstone?

Because you will not be hidden in the background. You will be part of a small, ambitious team at a historic football club with a proud past and a serious plan for the future. You will see how decisions are made, how revenue is created, how costs are managed, how a stadium project takes shape and how analysis can change the trajectory of a club.

For a graduate who wants responsibility, variety and exposure, this is a rare opportunity: finance one day, commercial analysis the next, stadium modelling after that - all in an environment where your work can be seen, used and valued.
