News From The Vale

Sam Cox was very pleased following the win against Southend, saying that the team showed “spirit, character [and] personality” against a high-quality opponent. You can watch his full post-match interview here.

The scorer of the winning goal against the Shrimpers, Olufela Olomola, spoke to club media following the game. One particular area that he highlighted was the support of the fans, who he felt “got us over the line” in the final stages of the game. ‘Fela’s full post-match reaction can be found here.

The draw for the Second Round of the FA Cup will be made on Monday, October 3, at 6:45pm, and it can be viewed on TNT Sports 1 and YouTube.

Slough Town, who the Stones have already faced in preseason, and AFC Totton are two of the lowest-ranked sides left in the competition, whilst League One leaders Stockport County are the highest-ranked side currently in the cup.

Finally, a reminder that those who are unable to make it to Huish Park on Tuesday night can watch a live screening of the game in The Vale Social Club. Each attendee will receive their first drink for free, courtesy of our new majority shareholder, Nick Semaca.

Our man in form - Deon Woodman: Deon Woodman is perhaps unlucky not to have been named as the Stones’ in-form player earlier, as he has been consistently excellent this season.

The 22-year-old has played all but five minutes of league football this season at the heart of the Stones’ defence.

Over the last seven games in the league and FA Cup, this defensive unit has been particularly impressive, conceding just seven goals and keeping three clean sheets.

Woodman has been central to this defensive effort, winning innumerable aerial duels and showing excellent pace and strength to deal with balls played in behind.

Keep up the good work, Deon!

The Opposition

Yeovil have been enjoying the luxury of a weekend off following their loss against Hemel Hempstead in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round.

The Glovers, embarking on their second consecutive campaign in the fifth tier, have already undergone a considerable amount of turmoil.

Long-serving manager Mark Cooper parted ways with the club in late August after his side surrendered a three-goal lead against Gateshead.

He was replaced by Danny Webb, who left the club after one game for personal reasons. Richard Dryden has since been appointed as an interim manager until the end of the season.

Despite this, the Somerset-based club find themselves in a relatively comfortable 14th place in the National League.

The manager - Richard Dryden: Dryden, a former top-flight footballer who played for the likes of Birmingham City, Bristol City and Southampton, was appointed to his first managerial position in nearly a decade in late September.

The 56-year-old’s coaching career has at points been intimately linked to that of Mark Cooper. He took up his first coaching post at Tamworth when Cooper was appointed as the club’s manager.

The Englishman had a three-year stint as manager at sixth-tier side Worcester City before assisting Cooper at Notts County and Barrow.

He was only reunited with Cooper at Huish Park at the start of this season, having spent two campaigns with Aldershot Town.

The danger man - Luke McCormick: As a Yeovil Town frontline, which looks immensely talented on paper, has struggled in practice, the Glovers have needed to lean on the dynamic midfield play of Luke McCormick.

The 26-year-old spent the first half of last campaign in League One with Bristol Rovers, scoring twice in 19 appearances for the Gas, before finishing the season with Forest Green Rovers.

He moved to Huish Park in the summer and has been one of Yeovil’s standout players this campaign.

McCormick scored a crucial 92-minute winner against Woking in mid-September, which earned him a place in the National League Team of the Week, and he has also netted against York City and Aldershot Town.

The Glovers’ number eight adds excellent tenacity and running power to Yeovil’s midfield, whilst also being extremely experienced for a 26-year-old.
