Wealdstone Football Club are delighted by the signing of defender Daniel Cox, who arrives in HA4 on a short-term loan from Derby County.
The 19-year-old has featured heavily for the Rams’ academy sides, making 20 appearances in the Premier League 2 during the last two seasons and captaining the side on a number of occasions.
Cox made his senior debut for the Rams against Wolverhampton Wanderers under-21s in November 2023, but has not yet made any further appearances for the Championship side.
His first prolonged spell in senior football came in October 2024, as he joined National League South side Enfield Town. He made 10 appearances in all competitions for the sixth-tier outfit, helping to kickstart a turnaround in form that would see the Towners escape relegation.
League Two promotion challengers Walsall opted to sign Cox on loan in the summer following two impressive performances as a trialist. Although he found game time hard to come by, the defender impressed when he was given opportunities, winning a higher percentage of his aerial duels than 92% of League Two centre-backs.
Perhaps most impressively, the Stones’ newest signing is a regular in the Welsh youth international setup. He currently plays for his country at the under-21 level, where he has won four caps in recent months.
Speaking following his arrival, Cox said:
“I am really excited to get going. Hopefully, I can play lots of games and progress well.
“Not many gaffers want to bring in a young centre-half. I really appreciate the opportunity, and I want to show him [Sam Cox] that he can trust me.”
The defener made his debut for the Stones in saturday's win over Daggenham & Redbridge, helping the team to a clean sheet as they progressed into the fifth round.
Welcome to the Vale, Daniel!
