News From The Vale
The Stones’ first-team squad saw another mini-refresh in the lead-up to their trip to Yeovil Town.
Phillip Chinedu was recalled by his parent club, Leyton Orient, ahead of their FA Cup clash against Tamworth. Everyone at Wealdstone Football Club wishes him the best for the future.
Sam Cox made two additions ahead of Tuesday night’s match, with youngsters Steven Turner and Eddy Nsasi arriving on loans from Ipswich Town and Fulham, respectively. Click here to find out more about Turner, and here to learn more about Nsasi.
Speaking following a two-nil victory against Yeovil, the gaffer described the performance as “outstanding”, especially given the tough conditions. The 35-year-old said that “there is a real buzz and energy about the group” at the moment, which he wants to keep going. You can find the full post-match reaction here.
The Stones also learned the details of their opponents in the FA Cup Second Round. In a repeat of last season’s historic clash, they will travel to Grimsby Town, aiming to replicate the terrific performance they put in just over 12 months ago.
The match will take place on Saturday, 6th December, and kick-off will be at 3pm.
Our man in form - Dante Baptiste: The goalkeeper’s magical story at the Vale has become even more special in recent weeks.
Making his debut at the tail end of last season after spending two years as a backup, Baptiste has established himself as the undisputed first-choice in goal this campaign, being the only player to play every minute in the league.
Against Sutton United, he made a number of saves whilst the Stones were two-nil down, keeping them in the game and facilitating their excellent comeback victory.
Last time out, he made two top saves just minutes before Max Kretzschmar scored Wealdstone’s second goal of the game. The result means the shot-stopper has kept clean sheets in each of his last two games, following a commanding performance against Southend United.
The Opposition
Recent form: LLDLL
League Position: 21st
Braintree Town are embarking on their second consecutive campaign in the National League and, like last season, the club’s foremost goal is survival.
As it stands, the Iron are failing to meet this target, but only due to goal difference. They have picked up nine of their 13 points at home and recorded just one league victory on their travels thus far.
They are currently in the midst of a rotten run of form, which has seen them pick up just one win in their last 10 games in all competitions.
The manager - Steve Pitt: Pitt is one of the most experienced managers in the fifth tier. He has carved out an established career across many different roles at non-league clubs, including Chelmsford, Billericay and Heybridge Swifts.
The 64-year-old worked as an assistant to the Iron’s previous manager, Angelo Harrop, between the summer of 2022 and 2023.
He was appointed as Braintree’s manager in December of 2024, guiding them to a very solid 17th-place finish in their first season back in the fifth tier.
The danger man - Terrell Works: Braintree’s danger man heading into Saturday’s game is versatile attacker Terrell Works.
He has enjoyed a distinguished youth career at Fulham, scoring three times and making four assists in the Premier League 2 last season.
The 20-year-old joined the Iron on loan for his first spell in senior football in mid-September, and has already looked very impressive in the fifth tier.
Works has netted four times in nine National League games, a crucial contribution when the Iron’s most established attackers are struggling in front of goal.
