News From The Vale
In their final home game before Christmas, the Stones secured a fairly comfortable two-one victory over Cheshunt, courtesy of second-half goals from Micah Obiero and Connor McAvoy.
Following the game, Sam Cox described the game as a “really good performance overall” in which the team stayed patient and waited for their opportunities. You can watch his full post-match interview here.
The draw for the fourth round of the competition will be made live on TalkSport 2 from approximately 5pm. 11 National League sides have already been eliminated from the competition, giving the Stones a better chance of facing lower league opposition once again.
It was two wins from two games for the Stones this weekend as the Wealdstone Women’s side beat Edgware and Kingsbury by four goals to two, with Gabi Racut and Beverley Bruce-Mills scoring braces!
For those who are unable to make the long trip to Truro on Tuesday night, please note that the game is being screened live in the Vale Social Club. Why not come on down and enjoy the match with your fellow Stones fans?
Our man in form - Micah Obiero: The Stones’ man in form can be none other than Micah Obiero.
The 24-year-old has led the Stones’ frontline admirably this season, working hard out of possession, but also rediscovering the goalscoring touch he showed in his first season at the Vale.
After scoring the opener against the Ambers on Saturday, the frontman has now netted twice in his last five games and taken his total for the season to eight goals in all competitions, making it his joint-highest-scoring campaign in a Stones shirt thus far.
Keep up the good work, Micah!
The Opposition
Recent form: LLLLL
League Position: 24th
Truro City did an incredible job to achieve two promotions in three seasons and get into the National League, especially given the quality and competitiveness of the National League South last season.
However, it looks as if they have progressed too quickly, too soon, as the club currently sit bottom of the fifth-tier table. They have accumulated just 12 points from their 21 league games thus far, and are at serious risk of being cut adrift at the foot of the standings.
The Tinners have not picked up a point since late October, scoring just three goals during that period.
The manager - John Askey: One reason for optimism that Truro fans may have is that they have an experienced and calm head in the dugout in the form of John Askey.
The 61-year-old started his managerial career at Macclesfield Town, where he achieved great success whilst dealing with off-field issues.
He then had spells in the EFL with Shrewsbury Town and Port Vale, before leading York City to promotion from the sixth tier in 2022.
Askey achieved the same feat with the Tinners last season, but will need to use every piece of knowledge he has picked up in his roughly 600-game managerial career to steer them clear of the drop this season.
The danger man - Tyler Harvey: Although his campaign in the National League has not quite gone to plan so far, Tyler Harvey is a player with immense quality, capable of single-handedly winning a game for his team when he is at his best.
Last season, the frontman scored a whopping 27 goals in 45 league games, finishing the campaign as the National League South’s top scorer and Player of the Year.
The 30-year-old signed a new contract with the Tinners in the summer, but has struggled for fitness at times this season. He was rested in Truro’s last game against Southend United, but may well come back into the team on Tuesday.
