News From The Vale

Gary Waddock’s side will be looking to build on their draw away to AFC Fylde in the opening weekend of the season. The Stones came from behind twice at Mill Farm as goals from Luke Norris and Olufela Olomola ensured that they did not leave the North-West empty-handed. Wealdstone go into Saturday’s game in good form overall having avoided defeat in their last four matches (counting pre-season games), including three victories. They will be boosted by Friday’s arrival of new signing Wilson Waweru, who joins the club after impressing on trial during pre-season to add to Gary Waddock’s striking options.

The game will also be our first ever Stones Family Matchday, featuring a brand-new Family Fun Zone with child-friendly games and activities. Tickets for U16s are available for just £1 when purchased alongside an adult ticket, meaning there has never been a better time to introduce the next generation of supporters to Wealdstone.

The Opposition

Saturday’s visitors arrive full of confidence having thumped Solihull Moors 5-2 in their opening match of the season as they look to put their relegation from League 2 behind them. They also enjoyed a positive pre-season and are undefeated in their last five outings including friendlies.

The Sulphurites have spent most of their history as a non-league club but achieved promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2020 via the play-offs, defeating Notts County at Wembley Stadium. 

During their stint in League 2, they achieved their highest-ever finish to a season, coming 13^th in 2023/24. Last season saw them relegated back to the National League following a challenging campaign.

This will be the first meeting between the sides in a competitive fixture.

The Danger Man: Brad Dolaghan

While nine players made their debuts for the visitors in their impressive opening day win and all impressed, Brad Dolaghan stands out as the man The Stones will have to keep quiet if they hope to pick up points on Saturday.

While the 21-year-old forward did not get on the scoresheet himself, he was a threat throughout and arrives at Wetherby Road off the back of finishing as the top scorer in the National League South last season for Worthing, scoring 23 goals in 40 league matches.

After initially coming through the ranks at Worthing, scoring seven goals in his first 10 league games, West Ham United offered him his first professional contract in 2024. A loan move to Aldershot Town followed, during which he picked up a winner’s medal in the Isuzu FA Trophy.

Eventually released by West Ham, he returned to Worthing and fired them to promotion last season, earning his latest move to Harrogate Town.
