Stones sign new keeper
Wealdstone are delighted to announce the signing of Marcus Dewhurst on a permanent deal from Premier League club Sheffield United.
“I’m delighted, it’s a chance to get my career back on track and hopefully help the club get back to where they want to be at the end of the season,” said Dewhurst. “I’ve spoken to the manager and he’s given me his visions for myself and the rest of the team.”
“I like to think I’m good with the ball at my feet and every keeper has to be a good shot-stopper. Hopefully I can put all of those attributes into the game.”
Dewhurst has spent the majority of his career at Sheffield United, who he joined in 2018, and has had the chance to learn from some highly experienced individuals at the club.
“I learnt a lot from there, keepers like Dean Henderson and Simon Moore. Even the ones that are there now like Wes Foderingham and Adam Davies have been a big help in my career as well as the goalkeeper coaches.”
The 22-year-old boasts plenty of National League and National League North experience, having had loan spells at Scunthorpe United, Boston United, Guiseley AFC and Solihull Moors.
His loan spell to Boston in the 2021/22 season saw him feature 32 times for the club, playing a key role in their run to the National League North play-off final, where they were defeated 2-0 by York City.
As well as a solid level of club experience, the shot-stopper has a good pedigree of international exposure under his belt, having featured a combined ten times for England at youth level with the U17s, U18s, U19s and the U20s.
Marcus takes the number 31 and pending league and FA approval, will go straight into the squad to face FC Halifax Town this weekend.
