REACTION | "I'm looking to hit the ground running"

As debuts go, Jamie Mascoll can be pretty satisfied with his first in a Wealdstone shirt.

The powerful left-sided player only met his new teammates this week and then was plunged into the white-hot atmosphere of a derby with Barnet in front a record crowd at The Vale. But the 24-year-old showed what a great temperament he has and his impressive levels of fitness to play a crucial role in the joyous win over the Bees.

He played 80 minutes down the left hand side, created the pass for the winning goal and ended up in the Vanarama Team of the Week. Not bad for someone who wasn't even sure he was playing in the build-up to kick-off.

"It’s hard to come in and perform to the level that Jamie did on his debut, as he didn’t have international clearance until the morning of the game," said manager Stuart Maynard. "It’s a real credit to him for the condition he’s kept himself in with limited game time this season. We believe there is more to come. He can play anywhere down the left side and will bring us good balance. He brings Football League experience and will bring great competition for places."

Mascoll has played for Charlton and Bolton and is now looking to kickstart his career with the Stones following a spell in Ireland with Waterford.

"I've joined late and I'm looking to hit the ground running," he said. "We've got some good fixtures coming up so hopefully I can feature, show how athletic I am and contribute with a few goals. This is a good club and hopefully I can play well here and then, eventually, get back into the League."
