REACTION: "Credit To The Players" - Waddock On Win As Stones Crush Iron

GARY WADDOCK can reflect - albeit not for long - on a first win as new Wealdstone boss - and it was an emphatic one, too: 4-1 away at Braintree Town in the Enterprise National League.

It's a result which puts distance between the Stones - still sat with a game or two in hand over most of the teams around them in the table - and the relegation zone, with the Essex hosts now third-from-bottom.

"I was pleased with many aspects of today and especially the amount of chances we created," Waddock told StonesTV after full-time at The Rare Breed Meat Co. Stadium.

"Credit to the players for keeping playing [the way they'd started the game] after we went one down. We opened them up a fair few times."

Indeed, Stones created a seemingly endless string of promising situations against The Iron in the first 45 - and would eventually take a 2-1 lead into half-time courtesy of goals from Nathan Tshikuna and Micah Obiero.

Two more goals kicking towards the Stones' faithful in the second half (from Obiero again and Dylan Kadji right on the full-time whistle) sealed a comfortable success.

Waddock explained: "Nathan did really, really well today. We had a brief conversation on Thursday and I explained to him I wanted him to be more involved in the game more often.

"He showed me today what he can and he chipped in with a goal, which showed me he's really responded to our chat."

And of newcomer Jack Hinchy alongside the goalscorer, the Stones' boss added: "He's gone into the middle of the park, he's been our pivot and he gets us playing.

"In fact, some of the work he does goes unnoticed so I've been pleased with him - because he's had to get up to speed with match fitness at this level, too.

"He's fitted in really well."
