INJURY LATEST: Manager's Words

HAVING used the majority of those fit and available in the Wealdstone squad across the two August Bank Holiday games, manager Gary Waddock reflected on a fine victory at Sutton United which completed a very promising four-point weekend for his team.

"Everyone to a man played their part [today]," he said, after a goal in each half from Micah Obiero provided a 2-0 scoreline which actually flattered the insipid hosts.

"It was one hell of a performance - and we've had the whole squad involved across the two weekend games."

Added Waddock: "Okay we hadn't won before today, but we'd been close in all the games we've played.

"My concern today was that we'd had a lot of opportunities in the first half and weren't further ahead. But we showed good resilience to get the win and get the monkey off our back, so to speak.

"It backs up the Carlisle result and makes it a really positive weekend for us."

The pride in his players' performance was written across the Stones' boss face as he spoke to Wealdstone FC TV pitch-side after a very one-sided win at the Borough Sports Ground against a United team which had come into the Enterprise National League fixture with a perfect four-wins-from-four-games record.

"Sutton have started the season well and they're good at that they do," he explained.

"But we did the defensive side of things very well and we were a real attacking threat too.

"Micah (Obiero) is such a good player and he was a real threat throughout. I'm pleased for him, playing in a slightly different position, to come up with two goals."

There was praise, too, from Waddock for Obiero's fellow striker Luke Norris.

"He's an experienced player, vocal and good in the dressing-room with the lads. 

"He provided a great focal point for us during the game and got us up the pitch when we needed him to.

"Add to that we got our blocks in and put our bodies on the line. It was a great performance all round."

INJURY LATEST: Manager's Words

Aaron Henry missed out on action but was there at Sutton alongside the squad cheering the lads on.

"We spoke the day before the game and decided it was best for him to sit out," explained Waddock, after Henry picked up a knock not long before his incredible free-kick earned the Stones a point at home to Carlisle United on Friday night.

"Dan Chesters was due to start today but tweaked his knee in the warm-up and we didn't want to risk it.

"We were hoping to give Dan an opportunity to play and Kyle (Smith) an opportunity to rest but it in fact Kyle came in and did extremely well."

Dion Conroy was the notable mid-game casualty for Wealdstone, appearing to get injured while striking at goal from a long-range free-kick.

"I asked him about and he said he didn't know [how bad it was] as he's not had a hamstring injury before," added the Stones' manager.

"Hopefully we'll get all the lads back soon and they won't be missing for too long."
