News From The Vale

Speaking after the four-one victory against Braintree, Gary Waddock was “pleased” that the team got “rewarded” for their efforts after creating a tremendous number of chances against the Iron. To watch his full post-match interview, click here.

In other news, ticket information for the Stones’ monumental FA Trophy Semi-Final match against Marine on March 28 was released late last week.

Our man in form - Micah Obiero: Despite not starting against Morecambe, Micah Obiero has scored half of the Stones’ goals in the Gary Waddock era.

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present in the Wealdstone frontline this season, and is the club’s top scorer across all competitions, having netted 12 times in 45 games thus far.

He tried to drag the Stones back into the match against Morecambe, being in the right place at the right time to tap the ball into an empty net.

These instincts and tenacity were attributes he showed last time out as he gathered a loose ball in the Braintree box and followed up on Sean Adarkwa’s strike to score a brace.

Great work, Micah!

The Opposition

Recent form: DWWLL

League Position: 10th

Wealdstone’s opponents on Saturday are putting together yet another impressive campaign for a club of their size.

Tamworth got promoted to the fifth tier for the first time in over a decade last season and secured a 10th-placed finish, and Andy Peaks’ men are on track to repeat that feat this season as they head a tightly-packed group in midtable.

The reverse fixture: Wealdstone produced a tough performance to secure a point away at Tamworth earlier in the campaign.

The fixture marked Moussa Diarra’s only league start of the season thus far, but the first half was damped by an injury to Alfie Massey, which spelt the end of the young midfielder’s loan stint in HA4.

Obiero had the biggest chance of the first half after he ran in behind the Lambs’ defence, but he was unable to beat Jas Singh in a one-on-one situation.

It was a former Wealdstone man in Manny Duku who had Tamworth’s best chance of the first half. His free kick fell just wide of the post.

The Stones started the second half in a lively manner, and the curse of the ex soon struck as Nathan Tshikuna struck a powerful effort into the top corner to give the Stones the lead!

However, the Stones’ lead lasted just seven minutes, Kennedy Digie firing a header well past the outstretched Dante Baptiste.

Andy Peaks’ side largely dominated the final phases of play, but the Stones’ defence held strong and denied the Lambs any major chances.

The danger man - Oliver Lynch: Tamworth are a team that largely share their goals among multiple players, but Oliver Lynch has stood out for the Lambs in recent weeks.

This is just the frontman’s second season in men’s football following an impressive six-month stint  in the National League South with Hemel Hempstead last season.

Lynch has scored 10 times in 44 appearances this campaign, and four of these goals have come in his last eight league appearances for the Lambs, including a crucial brace against Boreham Wood in the club’s last league victory.
