News from the Vale

Wealdstone will be eager to maintain momentum after an impressive bank holiday weekend which saw the Stones rescue a late point against Carlisle United and secure their first three points of the new campaign against Sutton United.

On Monday afternoon’s performance, Gary Waddock stated he was “so proud of the players, they put in a hell of a performance after the Carlisle one as well”.

“We defended really well, we put our blocks in, put our bodies on the line and Dante made a fantastic save right at the end so everyone played their part.”

In terms of injury news, Gary Waddock also declared that “Aaron Henry got a knock in the final stages of the Carlisle game and Dan Chesters tweaked his knee in today’s warm-up”. It remains to be seen whether they have shaken off their knocks.

The Opposition

Kidderminster Harriers travel to the Vale with momentum, having not lost a league game since the opening weekend of the season.

The Harriers propelled themselves back to the top flight of non-league football last season after beating South Shields 2-0 in the National League North play-off final.

Despite a two-season absence from the National League, Wealdstone are no strangers to the West Midlands side, having faced the Reds last season in the Isuzu FA Trophy quarter-final, where the Stones prevailed on penalties.

Kidderminster have begun the new season under fresh management. Paul Wooten was appointed head coach in May following the departure of Adam Murray, who left to join fellow National League side AFC Barrow.

Wooten joined the Harriers with a decade of coaching experience under his belt, gained with Plymouth Argyle, Truro City and Torquay United.

The danger man- Lewis Walker

In a Harriers squad packed with attacking prowess, the Stones will need to keep a close eye on Kidderminster’s new signing Lewis Walker.

Walker is a striker well known for finding the back of the net in the National League, having joined the Harriers from Braintree Town this summer after scoring 10 goals last season.

The danger man began his senior career with Queens Park Rangers before moving across Europe to Italy to win the Serie C title with Como.

Walker came back to England with Gillingham before a two season spell with Woking, where he scored 15 goals in 63 appearances in all competitions.

Kidderminster’s new striker has already slotted into the Harriers starting XI and has scored a four goals already this season, making him one to watch this Saturday!
