MATCH REPORT | Wealdstone 0-5 Charlton Athletic


Wealdstone were swept aside by EFL League One opponents Charlton Athletic at The Vale, bringing an end to Stuart Maynard’s unbeaten preseason run.


Goals from Lloyd Jones, Panutche Camara, Scott Fraser, Alfie May and Karoy Anderson sealed a comprehensive victory for Dean Holden’s men.


The visitors started brightly and galvanised their first goal scoring opportunity within ten minutes of play, but former Addick Charlie Barker recovered quickly to thwart the danger.


The Stones’ first big chance of the half came in the 13th minute when Tahvon Campbell headed Charles Clayden’s floated cross narrowly wide of the post.


Charlton Athletic opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Jones converted home from close range after a scramble in the box.


Three minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead in style as Camara chipped Wealdstone’s Trialist goalkeeper from range.


Stuart Maynard’s men responded positively to going two goals behind, as captain Jack Cook released Campbell through on goal and the striker unleashed a fierce strike that had to be tipped wide by Ashley Maynard-Brewer.


The Addicks were in cruise control by the 26th minute as Charlie Kirk’s smart pass found Fraser who duly despatched home to treble their lead.


Five minutes later, the visitors nearly notched their fourth goal as Diallang Jaiyesimi struck a powerful effort which was denied by the woodwork.


Charlton started the second half in the same attacking vein as the first, with Daniel Kanu firing just wide from close range in the 52nd minute of play.


Moments later, the Stones came close to reducing the deficit when Campbell curled an effort narrowly wide of the far post from just outside the area.


With 13 minutes remaining, the Addicks extended their advantage further as substitute May buried the rebound after his initial penalty kick was saved, following Tyreece Campbell being brought down in the box.


Wealdstone were close to pulling back a consolatory goal when substitute Corie Andrews drilled a powerful strike on target, but former Stone Harry Isted reacted with a fine save.


Five minutes from time, Anderson produced a lovely turn and finish to complete the rout for the Addicks.
