WEMBLEY goalscorer Bernie Bremer joined the other surviving members of Wealdstone's FA Amateur Cup-winning squad of 1965/66 at The Vale on Saturday - and recalled his contribution during a post-match Boardroom reception.
Charlie Townsend, Eddie Dillsworth and Hughie Lindsay joined fellow cup final starter Bremer - along with reserves Arthur Paisley and Roy Lavender who featured earlier during the Trophy run - in leading the two teams out onto the field for Wealdstone's final home fixture of the campaign.
Then, after the Stones' 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe United, it was back inside for some serious reminiscing.
Bremer recalled of his quick-thinking stab home to put Wealdstone's class of 1966 back ahead against Hendon: "It was a poacher's goal.
"It was the worst goal I ever scored! I just beat John Swallow, the [Hendon] goalkeeper to the ball and sort of ankled it in and it just limped over the line, you know."
Stones' all-time record appearance maker Townsend, meanwhile, had a pre-match issue to sort out before he boarded the team coach for the Twin Towers.
"It was a long day and it goes so quickly - but I had to go to Watford to get a new jacket on the morning of the match," smiled the Wealdstone legend, still a regular at The Vale in support of today's team.
While pulling his sleeve over his hand, he explained: "The jacket they'd given me was like that! It was too long; so I had to go into Watford to change it in the morning and get back to Wealdstone just in time for the team coach to leave at 12 o'clock.
"We had a police escort into Wembley and, from there, the day couldn't have gone any better."
Supporters loved seeing club heroes from 60 years ago...and now it's the turn of the Class of 2026 to make their own slice of history.
