News From The Vale
After suffering a serious injury against Scunthorpe United, Daniel Nkrumah has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. He posted the following message on his social media accounts:
“I’d like to say a massive thank you to the medical staff at my club and Scunthorpe United for their quick care and support after yesterday. Your help on the pitch meant a lot to me.
Also, a huge thank you to everyone who has shown me support and love. I’m thankful for your wishes.”
The National League have also decided that Scunthorpe will be awarded three points following the game’s abandonment last Saturday. This was a position that the Wealdstone FC Board of Directors supported. You can read the full statement here.
It has been an extremely busy week for the Board of Directors, as they have also called an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, 4th October in the Main Hall at Grosvenor Vale.
Please note that this meeting is strictly for shareholders only. For more information, click here.
The games at the Vale are coming thick and fast. Season ticket holders should not forget that they can gain free entry to the Stones’ National League Cup match against Leicester City Under-21s on Tuesday, 16th September.
A reminder that the match kicks off at 7pm, and that the fixture has already been loaded onto all season tickets. The Vale Social Club will be open from 5pm.
The Opposition
Recent form: WWDLL
Gateshead are a club that have been restricted by a number of different off-field issues over the past seven years. But they have consistently been able to produce competitive football teams during this period.
The past two seasons have seen the Heed playing some of the most attacking football in the fifth tier, whilst also challenging for the playoff positions.
They have had a mixed start to this campaign, currently sitting in 12th place with 10 points from their eight games. They have also conceded a whopping 21 goals in that period.
The manager - Alun Armstrong: 50-year-old Alun Armstrong took the helm at Gateshead this summer following the departure of Carl Magnay.
Armstrong was born in Gateshead, though he never appeared for the Heed during his playing days, in which he played in the Premier League for Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town.
He has significant managerial experience in the North-East, having enjoyed long and relatively successful spells with Blyth Spartans and Darlington. In fact, he led the Spartans to promotion from the Northern Premier League in the 2016/17 season.
It will not be the first visit that the Armstrong family have made to the Vale this season. Alun’s son, Luke, scored the only goal of the game during Carlisle United’s visit in late August.
The danger man - Kain Adom: The winner of Gateshead’s Player of the Month award for August, Kaine Adom, is the danger man heading into Saturday’s game.
The London-born winger, who has previously thrived in the National League South, has impressed at the Gateshead International Stadium since Armstrong’s appointment.
After a messy 2024/25 campaign, which saw him play for three different teams in the fifth tier, the attacker looks full of confidence and end product.
His late brace against Yeovil Town completed a historic comeback victory for the Heed and took his goal tally for the season to four in just nine appearances.
