FIRST SUMMER SIGNING: Newton Gravitates To Stones

WEALDSTONE FC is delighted to confirm Joe Newton as its first summer signing ahead of Season 2026/27.

The versatile left-wing-back arrives at The Vale offering considerable experience in the top-flight of the non-league game.

"Joe has good energy, gets up and down the pitch and him being left-footed is a bonus," said Stones' boss Gary Waddock of the former Coventry City youth-teamer who has over 100 National League appearances to his name.

The 25-year-old came within a penalty shootout of being promoted to the Football League in May 2024, in the middle of a two-year spell at Solihull Moors.

His consistent form between 2023 and 2025 earned him a move last summer to Boreham Wood, where he made nearly 40 appearances throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

Added Waddock: "Joe knows the level well and brings a lot of experience of playing at clubs at the top of this division which will help us no end.

"He'll give us balance on the left side and is a consistent performer."

Newton left the Sky Blues to sign for Havant & Waterlooville - then in the National League South - during summer 2021, before moving on to Damson Park with the Moors and coming within an ace of winning the National League Promotion Play-Off Final.

"Along with Danny Payne [First-Team Coach] and Steve Boone [Recruitment Manager], I've spoken to a number of people about Joe," explained the Wealdstone manager.

"We're keen to get to know the person behind the player we've all seen from coming up against him.

"All these factors are important, and in Joe I think we've got ourselves a really strong addition to our squad."

MEANWHILE, the Stones are bidding farewell to Anthony Georgiou, who leaves The Vale by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old - who joined from Leyton Orient in 2023 - made over 80 appearances in the royal blue of Wealdstone, including starting The Isuzu FA Trophy Final against Southend United last month.
