We are delighted to announce that the London Borough of Hillingdon have selected Wealdstone FC as an official partner to provide holiday camps for children in receipt of free school meals under its Holidays Activities and Food (HAF) programme.

The programme provides children with enriching activities and healthy food over holiday periods and Wealdstone FC will be running a football camp at its Grosvenor Vale home from Monday 3rd April to Thursday 7th April.

The camp will be free for children who receive benefits related free school meals and either live or are educated in the borough of Hillingdon. The camp is also open to children who do need receive the free school meals benefit aged 4 to 16 for a small fee.

The HAF programme seeks to provide children in receipt of free school meals with free holiday provision, including healthy food and enriching activities. Research has shown that the school holidays can be pressure points for some families. For some children that can lead to a holiday experience gap, with children from low-income households being:  less likely to access organised out-of-school activities, more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health, and more likely to experience social isolation.

Marie Fleming Senior Programme Coordinator for Children Services at the London Borough of Hillingdon commented.

Hillingdon is offering a range of programmes across the Easter, Summer and Christmas holiday periods to school-aged children from reception to year 11 (inclusive) who receive benefits-related free school meals. Through our programme of healthy food and fun activities, children and young people can develop new skills, take part in creative and physical activities, learn about food and cooking, and enjoy a free nutritious meal each day.

Darren Linden Wealdstone FCs Engagement and Communities director said

We are absolutely delighted to be able to support Hillingdon council in the delivery of its HAF programme. It’s a fantastic initiative and something we wholeheartedly support. This really does build on all the positive community activities that the club is involved inincluding the work of the Wealdstone Trust in local schools, the “free tickets for schools” initiative which has already seen over 1000 tickets given away to local school children and our initiative with Hillingdon Council where we are providing free tickets to displaced Ukrainian families living in the borough.

We are also delighted that Academy head Cameron Mawer, 1st team coach Kenny Mutsanya and 1st team players Dom Hutchinson, Olufela Olomola and David Sesay will be providing the coaching so the camp promises to be a special experience for the children involved.

Spaces are limited so our advice is book early. Full details of the soccer camp including how to book are contained in the leaflet below.
