Stones ready for big FA Youth Cup clash

Cameron Mawer is looking forward to seeing how his developing Wealdstone Academy side deal with the pressure of playing under the lights in the most prestigious youth cup competition in the country.

The Academy Manager takes an Under-18 side to Tring Athletic for the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup tomorrow night (Thursday) and wants the players do themselves and the club proud.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the boys in such a prestigious competition," said Mawer. "Everyone remembers their FA Youth Cup days and hopefully we can create some life long memories for this group.”

The team go into the game on the crest of a wave after their thrilling 2-1 National League Under-19 win against local rivals Barnet last week. But Mawer knows that cup football is different and that the hosts will provide tough opposition.

“I firmly believe in them but they know just how tough a place Tring is to go," he said. "Hopefully we can have as many supporters come down and support us on the night as possible."

Kick off at The Grass Roots Stadium in Cow Lane is at 7.45pm tomorrow (Thursday 29th September).
