Wealdstone made the perfect start to their 2025-26 campaign, defeating Truro City 2-0 at Grosvenor Vale.
Goals from Enzio Boldewijn and Dom Hutchinson, either side of half-time, ensured that Sam Cox’s men took all three points to reside in fifth position in the National League.
Truro City generated the first chance of the match in just the forth minute, with Connor Riley-Lowe’s free-kick from an inviting position being saved by Dante Baptiste.
Baptiste then breathed a sigh of relief in the 8th minute, when he lost the ball in his own six-yard box, but Wealdstone’s shot-stopper recovered well before Luke Jephcott could profit.
In the 19th minute, the Stones had their first sight of goal, with the lively Anthony Georgiou winning a free-kick in a dangerous position; however his subsequent effort was blocked by the Tinners’ wall.
With six minutes remaining in the first-half, danger-man Sean Adarkwa almost broke the deadlock in sublime fashion; gliding past two Truro City defenders and unleashing a venomous strike from range that rattled the crossbar.
Bolstered by this effort, the Stones duly took the lead a minute before the stroke of half-time, with Boldewijn pouncing on a melee in the box to loop a header over Daniel Lavercombe.
Wealdstone returned from the interval in the same vein they finished the last, and Max Kretzschmar nearly doubled the hosts’ lead two minutes after the restart, drilling a low effort towards the bottom corner that was well-saved by Lavercombe.
In the 54th minute, Kretzschmar had another bite of the cherry, latching onto an exquisite through-ball from Boldewijn and firing on target, but Lavercombe denied Wealdstone’s number ten again.
As the visitors looked to equalise, the Tinners came close in the 62nd minute –last year’s National League South Player of the Year, Harvey, flashed his shot just wide of the post.
With 12 minutes left to salvage a point, the Tinners were nearly fruitful as Harvey’s flicked header from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long throw whistled just wide of the far post.
However, substitute Hutchinson put the result beyond doubt for the Stones in the 85th minute, powerfully despatching past the Truro City custodian from the edge of the box.
The Stones came close to putting the icing on the cake in the 95th minute, with Georgiou curling his free-kick over the wall towards the bottom corner, but Lavercombe parried the ball to safety to prevent Wealdstone’s third.
