REPORT: Slough Town 0-2 Wealdstone

Wealdstone produced a convincing performance to defeat Slough Town at Arbour Park by two goals on Saturday afternoon in their last friendly before the 2026/27 National League season kicks off.

Gary Waddock named a mixed starting XI, with five trialists given a final opportunity to impress, while new signing Luke Norris led The Stones’ frontline for the first time. 

The visitors created numerous chances in the first half but had to wait until after the interval to take the lead through Trialist G, before Olomola scored their second goal in the closing stages to confirm a comfortable win.

Wealdstone started the game strongly and had their first big chance in just the 7th minute. Dante Baptiste launched a trademark long kick over the top of the Slough Town defence that found Luke Norris.  The former Stevenage star squared the ball to Trialist E who failed to make proper contact with the ball which rolled tamely to the goalkeeper.

In the 13th minute Jayden Harris drove to the byline before firing in a low cross towards the Trialist E who attempted to turn it home with a clever flick which went narrowly wide.

Just moments later the Slough Town keeper rushed off his line to close down the angle as Trialist E was again denied from point-blank range in a frustrating opening 20 minutes for the striker.

Luke Norris was involved again as the chances kept coming, showing his quality to hold the ball up before flicking it through to Joe Newton who could only blast it into the side netting.

The Wealdstone momentum waned slightly after the players paused for a drinks break due to the warm conditions, but there were still a couple of opportunities to come before the end of the half.

Firstly, Trialist A rose the highest at a Wealdstone corner, heading narrowly over the bar, before Kyle Smith produced an impressive effort from a free-kick that pinged off the top of the crossbar as The Stones went into the break, possibly wondering how the match was still level.

HALF-TIME: Slough Town 0-0 Wealdstone

Gary Waddock again rolled the changes at half-time as the other new signing, Aidan Francis-Clarke, was introduced alongside two more trialists.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 53rd minute.  The Stones patiently built from the back before playing Olomola in down the right flank.  He delivered an inviting low cross into the box, which trialist G managed to convert, sliding and stretching to just about reach the ball and divert it goalwards.

The chances came less often in the second half, as has often been the theme in pre-season, due to the warm conditions and number of changes made by both sides, but while they created less in an attacking sense, the Stones gave up very little ground to their National League South opponents.

Wealdstone eventually doubled their lead as the match entered the final 10 minutes. Olomola found himself in space after some slack defending by The Rebels and produced a clinical finish to seal the win.

The Stones end pre-season with three wins and three clean sheets in a row, and they will look to carry that momentum into the National League campaign, which begins away to Fylde on Saturday.
