SIGNED: Striker Norris Signs For Stones

EXPERIENCED goal-getter Luke Norris has signed at The Vale on a season-long loan from Boreham Wood, Wealdstone FC is delighted to confirm.

The seasoned forward has enjoyed prolific strike-rates across a number of EFL clubs in recent years - including at Gillingham, Swindon Town, Colchester United and Stevenage.

Indeed, Norris's impact was so significant at Boro that he was named the club's 'Player of the Season' in 2022/23 as Stevenage earned automatic promotion from EFL League Two.

"When you combine the fact Luke has great experience above this level, is a goalscorer and a leader, then it's a fantastic signing for us - no question about that," said Stones' manager Gary Waddock of this significant capture.

"Although it's still a young-ish group here, all the players will know him and what he's done during his career.

"He's had a good pre-season and this is a fresh start for him now."

The 33-year-old has scored over 100 league goals in EFL competitions, having spent some formative years as part of Luton Town's youth set-up. He joined Brentford's academy for a two-year scholarship in 2010, after being spotted playing for Hitchin Town.

Boreham Wood played host to the forward's first loan spell away from the Bees in 2012/13, before further temporary stints at Northampton Town and Dagenham & Redbridge preceded a permanent transfer to Gillingham in summer 2014.

From that point, the goals started to flow regularly and earn Norris a reputation as a marksman to be feared in the EFL's lower divisions.

Added Waddock: "I'm certain Luke will be a leader for us not just in the way he plays but the example he sets for younger players to follow in terms of having been around the professional ranks for so long.

"He'll be a great asset on the pitch with his experience; you need older players around to help the team problem-solve during matches and he'll definitely help us do that."

Norris featured over 20 times for promotion-chasing Wood last term, but is now setting his sights on a big impact with the Stones.
