IT was a big thumbs-up from captain Enzio Boldewijn when talking about his team's performance during Wealdstone's 2-1 Enterprise National League win over Brackley Town at The Vale last night.
"First and foremost, the win was the most important thing today" said the skipper of an important three points which steers Stones nine points from the four-team relegation zone before matches tonight (Wednesday February 25) are played.
"You could see we played a slightly different way this evening; doing our thing, knowing we needed to score more goals than the times recently when we haven't done so.
"We probably did better against 11, because it was harder playing against 10 men when that happened. But we got the job done in the end."
The experienced Dutchman reflected on the work of First-Team Coach Danny Payne, who had no more than one training session to work with the squad after having been placed in interim charge at The Vale following Sam Cox's departure.
"We've trained the whole season on certain patterns so we couldn't change too much given the time we had," said Boldewijn, whose composure grew throughout the game, as Wealdstone were made to tough out the final 30 minutes of the clash.
"It was just about putting less risk into the things we were doing, maybe.
"Credit to the boys, they knew what needed to be done. Everyone ran hard for the cause and, even when they scored their goal, we knew we had to get this over the line."
The Stones' two goals were the first scored by the side in four attempts, since Nathan Tshikuna - who grabbed the second against the Saints after the break - bagged a double at Eastleigh.
The opener, meanwhile, came from Sean Adarkwa, whose last start in the league came in the reverse fixture at Brackley back on October 1.
"We all know Sean, you know - strong and quick, so it was good that he scored today" smiled Boldewijn, as he spoke about the big striker who had been stuck on the bench for several recent weeks.
"I'm happy for Sean and hopefully there's more to come from him."
