REACTION: "It Was Kind Of Surreal" - Obiero On 'That Moment'

IT'S hard to think of a more significant single goal being scored at The Vale across the current near-18 year tenure of Wealdstone Football Club.

And, of its type, this Isuzu FA Trophy semi-final winner had an elegance about it; poise, presence of mind - and that special 'time stands still' moment, as the ball looped over Marine's goalkeeper, when goalscoring hero Micah Obiero knew it was dropping into the net in front of The Bulla Stand.

"It's a special moment for the club, for the fans, for everyone involved," smiled the striker, after notching his 15th goal of the current campaign.

"When the ball was dropping it took forever. It was kind of surreal - and I didn't know exactly what to do so I just ran to the fans.

"There was noise, energy and excitement in the crowd. I'm thankful we could deliver something to them today."

Thoughts of a penalty shootout were crossing the minds of the 4,000 supporters squeezed into The Vale for what was a ground record attendance.

But that obviously wasn't on the mind of two Stones' players, at least.

Explained the Redbridge-born forward: "Dante (Baptiste) has looked for me all season when he's got the ball.

"He's caught it, kicked it long and I think the defender has misjudged the flight of it. I've latched onto it, got a good connection and luckily it went in."

The 25-year-old agreed it was a real team performance that saw the hosts through - or at least ensured there was a chance a single goal had the chance to win it.

"No one person wins the game...it's everyone," said Obiero, who's now passed 150 appearances in total for the Royals.

"Everyone's involved; it's a collective. We have a lot of cohesion and togetherness in this team. That's been the case all season."

And now, of course, the ultimate prize. Time to realise a boyhood dream.

"When I get back [home] and settle down, it'll sink in," he beamed.

"As a boy, when you go to the park with your friends, you play 'Wembley' so it's always [going to be] a good thing to get there.

"I've never been so it'll be big for me as well. It'll create memories for the fans that have never been there so it's good."
