REACTION: "I'll Take 7-6 As Long As We're Winning!" – Waddock On Toppling Tamworth

GARY WADDOCK is happy for Wealdstone to provide their fanbase with entertainment and exciting - so long as high-scoring games continue to go his team's way!

After a cut-and-thrust 3-2 home defeat to Morecambe last week, Stones have now won two in a row: 4-1 at Braintree on Saturday and now 3-2 against Tamworth - twice coming from behind to do so at The Vale.

"Yes I'd like to keep a clean sheet but I'd be quite happy winning games 7-6," he told StonesTV after the Royals called upon no little spirit to earn a 12th Enterprise National League success from 35 games played.

"I'll take 7-6 as long as we're winning. It's entertaining and exciting," he added, reflecting on a performance which saw both starting strikers on the scoresheet.

"If we go down, we'll always battle away to try and find a way back in. They've got a real personality about them, these players, and there's character in there as well."

Waddock contended Stones' second-half performance deserved the victory.

"I'm very pleased with the result. It's always difficult against Tamworth with the way they play because they're very good at it.

"That caused us problems in the first half, but second half I think we got to grips with it and played well.

"We played some good football second half and were deserved winners really, as we created a number of good chances again."

And chance creation is clearly on the up in recent games, too?

"The strikers have been really good and effective for us but other players have contributed as well," explained the Stones' boss.

"Perhaps that's why the forwards have had more chances in the past couple of games."

And it's not just personnel, the playing style has seen Wealdstone playing forward quicker and earlier.

He continued: "I watched the Kidderminster game again and we went backwards a lot in terms of keeping possession.

"The opposition goal is at the other end of the pitch so that's where you'll get your joy!

"I made the point to the players you can also keep the ball by going forwards. Credit to them, they've taken that on board and we've made plenty of chances lately."

Credit not just to the players, though. Waddock was quick to highlight the work of the coaching staff after this second successive league triumph pushed Stones up to tenth in the table.

"The staff have been brilliant alongside the players," he said.

"Everyone deserves a pat on the back This is only the start, though; we've got to maintain it."
