WEALDSTONE manager Sam Cox has called on his players to "bring personality to the table" after Tuesday night's 4-1 demise at Aldershot Town left his side winless in the Enterprise National League since November 8.
"We always knew we'd be in for a tough patch at some point," he acknowledged. "And we're in it right now.
"[Football] is a game of moments. When we're on top, we've got to take our chances and we've got to defend our box better.
"We've got to cut out the naivety, cut out the individual errors and we have to be more ruthless."
Stones' campaign shouldn't be judged just on this tough recent run. They have put 32 points on the board, reached FA Cup Round Two and are set for a Saturday January 10 last-32 Isuzu FA Trophy home tie against lower-division Dagenham & Redbridge. But defeat at a chilly EBB Stadium to the struggling Shots brought home just how unforgiving a division the fifth tier of English football continues to prove.
"On the balance of the game, despite being 2-0 down we were the team more likely to score the next goal. We got one back, then they scored a third just before half-time.
"We weren't able to connect in the second half, but they changed their press and we weren't able to get a lot of joy.
"The game slipped away from us and we ended up conceding another two when we all felt - fans included, I think - that there was something in the game for us when we pulled a goal back at 2-1."
Cox added: "We've got to roll our sleeves up because there's a lot of work to do.
"It doesn't get any easier for us because we've got some really tough games coming up."
