WHAT WAS SAID?

Dean Brennan: “We’re going up against a fantastic side. It’s very early days, but they look like the strongest team in the division so far. They have a lot of experience, quality and they are looking to get promoted back to the Football League.”

Jim Gannon: “It’s going to be a really tough place to go. There will be a buzz for them playing at a higher level and welcoming the likes of Stockport. We’ll be back at work on Monday, on the road Tuesday and let’s hope we can pick up all three points.”

WHO TO WATCH FOR

John Rooney: 29-year-old midfielder Rooney signed for Stockport in the summer from National League champions Barrow. Rooney scored 19 goals from central midfield last season as he was one of the standout players in Barrow’s championship side. The midfielder started his first game for the club last week and scored two goals against Dover Athletic on Saturday.
