Preview - Concord Rangers (H) - Saturday 30th November

Wealdstone return to National League South action this weekend when the Stones host in-form Concord Rangers at The Vale on Saturday afternoon.

The league leaders will be eagerly anticipating their return to league action after playing only two leagues fixtures this month.

Stones Manager Dean Brennan on November: “November hasn’t been an ideal month for us, we’ve had four games cancelled and football can change very quickly”.

Concord Rangers are the visitors to The Vale and are entering the weekend in good form following an impressive 3-2 victory against second-placed Slough Town in the FA Trophy on Tuesday.

The Beach Boys have come out with strong results after difficult fixtures against five of the top seven in the National League South, scoring against all five sides.

Brennan on Concord Rangers: “They have that strength in depth within their squad now and you can see that in their results.”

This game begins a six-week spell including 10 National League South fixtures for the Stones within a busy festive period, which Brennan described “won’t be easy”.

“You have to be at your very best every game and it’s a slog”, said Brennan. “Winning a league title or gaining a promotion…takes every inch and sacrifice out of you”.

The Stones had their Middlesex Senior Cup opener against Hayes & Yeading postponed in midweek which allowed Brennan to give an additional training session this week.

“We had a practice game at training on Tuesday night with really good tempo and competitiveness”, explained Brennan.

“After we train like that, we’ve got to take that into the game when the opposition will try to stop you.”

There is no return this weekend for midfielder Kavan Cotter and full-back Ryan Sellers who have both missed the majority of the season so far, although they are not far from a return.

“Kav [Kavan Cotter] will be back training with the group next week”, said Brennan. “We’re hoping [Ryan] Sellers can be back with the group in two weeks”.

An on-the-whistle report will be available on the official Wealdstone FC website at full-time on Saturday; you can follow live updates on the official Stones Twitter feed from 3pm.
