THE CONTEXT

Wealdstone won their first ever National League South title on points-per-game in June and will compete in their first National League fixture since 1988. Chesterfield slumped to a disappointing 20th place in the National League last season and will look to bounce back in John Pemberton’s first full season in charge.

TEAM NEWS

No players in the squad are injured ahead of Saturday’s opener. Connor Stevens was a doubt and missed the final few games of pre-season but has been judged as fit for selection.

WHAT WAS SAID?

Dean Brennan: “Chesterfield are a good side, John [Pemberton] has them very well drilled and well organised. They are a very physical side which lots of height and they’ve got a lot of experience. We’re going to have to be on our best game to get the three points. We want to impact the level with how we play, we’ll have to adapt and sometimes play on the counter-attack with our pace.”

Danny Parish: “I’m really excited for Saturday, it’s been a long wait for any competitive games so to get back out there playing for three points is really exciting.”

John Pemberton: “Wealdstone are a great side, they got promoted last season and they've got some great players so they'll be up for it. We will get better as we play, we've only played three games, some of our players haven't even managed to play 90 minutes yet.”

WHO TO WATCH FOR

Scott Boden: 30-year-old striker Boden was Chesterfield’s joint top goalscorer in the National League last season, the experienced frontman will be keen to lead the line for the Spireites in his eighth season at the club.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This is the first ever fixture between these two sides.
