The Context
Wealdstone will look to keep their unbeaten streak going when they face Torquay United at the Vale on Saturday. The Stones are unbeaten in six games thanks to a last-minute Jack Cook leveller against Maidstone United on Tuesday night. Stuart Maynard’s men have conceded the least goals in the division and have the in-form goalkeeper Sam Howes to thank for their excellent defensive efforts. Torquay travel to the Vale in 20th place in the National League, having only won two of their opening eight league games and will look to improve on a slow start to the season.
One to Watch
Torquay United forward Will Goodwin scored his second goal of the season in Torquay’s 4-1 defeat to Solihull Moors and won high praise from manager Gary Johnson who described his goal as a "great finish". Johnson also said that the Stoke City loanee "worked hard, very hard’" as Torquay looked to press Solihull. With Wealdstone primarily playing out from the back, the young forward could be one to look out for in Saturday’s fixture.
Did You Know?
Torquay United were formed by school leavers in 1899 and played their first ever match against Upton Cricket Club XI in a farmer’s field. Instead of having customary oranges at half-time, they held a picnic instead!
