Wealdstone’s newest signing Omar spoke to the club after completing his move to The Vale, and shared his excitement at joining ahead of the new season.
“Thank you very much. I’m excited. I’m glad we got stuff done, so I’m ready to go.”
Asked to introduce himself to the fans, Omar gave a clear idea of what he brings to the squad.
“I’m a creative midfielder. My best attribute is creating play and recovering the ball. I’m strong defensively as well as a holding six. I’d like to show that on the pitch and get out there with the boys.”
On working under Head Coach Sam Cox, Omar said the manager played a big role in his decision to sign.
“He played a very big part for me coming here because I had other offers, but it’s just the way how he spoke to me, the plans that he has for the team. The fans will be seeing that very soon. I like his ideas and what he’s going to bring forward too.”
Having previously played at The Vale as an opponent, Omar is now looking forward to having the fans on his side.
“Of course. The whole reason I play football — I feel like growing up, if you’re a kid and there weren’t fans — I don’t think a lot of kids would have become footballers. That’s a very important thing for me.”
Reflecting on his career so far, Omar spoke about his journey from Belgium to England and the experience he’s gained in the National League.
“I’ve been playing in England for four years, came over from Belgium. I know the league well now. Torquay was nice, and I’m quite experienced in this league. I hope I can contribute to the team.”
Welcome to The Vale, Omar.
