News From The Vale

Wealdstone secured their second away win of the season against National League newcomers Brackley.

Enzio Boldewijn, who captained the side, opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before Micah Obiero’s strike, just after the start of the second half, sealed the victory for the Stones.

Sam Cox was delighted with the team’s performance following the game, saying: “That performance was everything that we’re about!” You can find his full post-match interview here.

Earlier this week, the draw for the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round was made. The Stones will be hosting Whitstable Town, who play in the Southern Counties East Football League, on Saturday, 11th October at The Vale, 3pm kick off.

Our man in form - Enzio Boldewijn: Since his arrival at the Vale in the summer of 2024, Enzio Boldewijn has been a model of consistency and excellence for the Stones.

But his performances over the last few games deserve a special mention. Playing at centre-back (in the absence of Jack Cook), right-back and right wing-back, the Dutchman has been an integral part of a strong defensive unit which has conceded just once in the last three games.

When playing in a more advanced role, the 32-year-old has also been a major threat going forward. He got himself into an excellent position and showed good composure to score the opening goal against Brackley.

The strike took Boldewijn’s tally for the season to four goals and he is now Wealdstone’s top scorer in the National League.

The Opposition

Recent form: LLLLL

League Position: 20th

Altrincham are entering their sixth consecutive season in the National League. They may have a business model that the Stones might broadly want to follow, having gone full-time in the 2022/23 season after first establishing themselves in the fifth tier.

One aspect about the Robins that Wealdstone will definitely not want to follow is their recent form, as they seem a long way from the offensively menacing team that contained the likes of Chris Conn-Clarke two seasons ago.

Alty have lost each of their last five games in all competitions, and currently sit at the bottom of the form table. Only three teams have conceded more goals than the Robins in that time period.

The manager - Phil Parkinson: In the Altrincham dugout on Saturday is one of, if not the, most legendary manager in the club’s history, Phil Parkinson.

The 44-year-old arrived at the J. Davidson Stadium in the 2016/17 season as the Robins were doomed for relegation to the seventh tier.

416 matches later, he has guided the club to two promotions, as well as the National League playoffs in the 2023/24 campaign.

Parkinson has picked up a remarkable 1.5 points per game whilst in charge of the Robins, and he is the longest-serving single-spell manager in Altrincham’s history.

The danger man - Jimmy Knowles: Although the Robins are out of form at the moment, their squad still possesses immense individual quality.

Their top scorer this season is Jimmy Knowles, who has netted five times in 13 appearances in the fifth tier.

The 24-year-old has previously enjoyed impressive stints with Notts County, as a youngster, and Boston United, where he scored 18 times in 45 league games during the 23/24 National League North season.
