News From The Vale

Sam Cox’s side started the week with an excellent victory against Southend United.

Enzio Boldewijn opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, before Slavi Spasov equalised for the visitors 10 minutes later.

A second-half Sean Adarkwa brace was enough to secure a thrilling three-two win for the Stones after an agonising 14 minutes of added time!

Following the game, Adarkwa said that he was “thankful” to have scored two goals and “happy” that the team managed to secure the win. His full post-match interview can be found here.

The 24-year-old was named as the Man of the Match and selected in the Enterprise National League Team of the Week! Congratulations, Sean!

Our man in form - Sean Adarkwa: Unsurprisingly, Adarkwa is our man in form heading into Saturday’s game.

The frontman is the Stones’ top scorer in the league, having found the back of the net three times in just six starts. All three of these goals have been very different, showing his well-rounded offensive game.

His goal against Halifax came after running in behind and producing an excellent finish. He showed excellent composure to convert his penalty against Southend, and his second goal against the Shrimpers showed his fox in the box instincts.

After an injury-hit 2024/25 season, which saw him play just five competitive games, Adarkwa already looks to have recaptured his form from the 2023/24 campaign, in which he scored 10 goals in 33 league games.

Scunthorpe currently occupy sixth place in the National League, and they are one of just four remaining unbeaten teams.

They have accumulated 12 points, the same number as the Stones, but have played a game less, owing to a horrible incident between Archie Harris and Jean Belehouan on Tuesday.

Everyone at Wealdstone Football Club wishes both players well in their recovery.

The Iron have historically been an EFL club. But they went on a five-year run in which they did not finish above 20th place in the league, which saw them relegated to the National League North.

They won promotion from the sixth tier last season via the playoffs. Carlton Ubaezuonu’s 105th-minute goal secured them a two-one win against Chester.

The manager - Andy Butler: The 41-year-old played over 150 times across two spells for the Iron before embarking on his coaching career.

He initially joined Scunthorpe as a youth team coach in 2022, but worked his way through the ranks and was appointed as manager in May 2024.

Butler has won 32 and drawn 16 of his 59 matches in charge at the Attis Arena, and he has been nominated for the National League Manager of the Month award.

The danger man - Callum Roberts: Scunthorpe United’s danger man is someone who has previously torn this division apart with Notts County.

Roberts, who made two appearances for Newcastle United as a youth, scored a staggering 22 goals in just 64 games for the Magpies whilst playing on the wing. 16 of these strikes came in 37 appearances during the 2021/22 season.

What makes the 28-year-old so dangerous is not just his goal threat, but also his creativity and versatility.

In addition to the 20 goals he scored for the Iron last campaign, he also made 12 assists. Roberts can also play on either flank, in attacking midfield, or even as a false nine if required.
