INTERVIEW: “Excited For The Supporters” – Semaca on Wealdstone & Wembley

Nick Semaca is flying in to be at Sunday’s Isuzu FA Trophy Final – and insists the credit for his club’s appearance at Wembley Stadium should be attributed primarily to supporters who kept the club alive during its darkest times.

In his first interview as Wealdstone FC’s new majority shareholder, filmed a few weeks ago, he touched on many subjects, and now his thoughts are turning to a day under the famous Wembley arch.

“I’ve not done anything to earn the club a trip to Wembley, trust me,” smiled Semaca, speaking from Germany, where he’s stopped off en route to England.

“My travel schedule is tight but I’m dearly hoping to get to The Vale on matchday morning, just to feel the warmth of welcome that’s always there waiting.”

Chicago-based Semaca says Stones reaching the cup final is simply affirmation of the hard graft that’s gone into re-building the foundations of a club whose very existence was regularly under threat for more than a decade.

“Mainly for the supporters I’m excited about Sunday. Those people who never gave up on the club; when it fell on tough times after what winning the FA Trophy in 1985 must have promised in theory.

“For all of the great people – the fans, the Board and the Supporters Club – that have been here for so many years, determined to see better times for the club, I hope it’s a fantastic day.”

It’s a moment the American former Leyton Orient director didn’t for a moment price into his thinking.

“Not in a million years did I factor in going to Wembley with Wealdstone when I first started discussions about getting involved at The Vale”, he said.

“I’m feeling a lot of pride, a lot of excitement as I say. Every moment must be savoured – especially by the staff and volunteers, who give everything across many events to help the club to thrive.

“As a life-long sports fan, having been involved with many teams, chances like this you just don’t have very often.

“This party is going to start Sunday morning and hopefully run on well into the evening!”
