Bobby Wilkinson took the opportunity to use his squad players for a timely friendly match on Monday night with the majority of his regular starting playing staff also present taking part in a light pre-match training session and using a new recovery ice bath following Saturday’s hard fought win over Truro City.

The friendly was a high tempo and competitive affair throughout and will have provided a good test for those players that have not been able to feature regularly in recent National League matches.

Stones started strongly against ninth placed Bostick Premier side Potters Bar Town and soon raced into a two goal lead. Both goals came via deflections from powerful strikes from Jeffrey Monakana and at one point it looked as though the home side would over-run The Scholars but that wasn’t to be the case as the away side picked up their intensity and pulled a goal back very smartly before half-time from winger Leo Pedro after a good following move.

Both sides had chances to add to their tallies after the break with Stones dominating possession but the score- line remained at 2-1.

Bobby Wilkinson would have been pleased with a very useful work-out for the squad with the opposition providing a good, physical test. One or two players caught the eye with Jake Sheppard working particularly hard and he provided a real handful for the Potters Bar defence all evening.

WEALDSTONE: Thomas, Sheppard, DeMuria, Wilson, Mambo, Clark, Mitchell, Lench, Brown, Slew, Monakana. Sub used: White.
