WHILE the class of 2026 are looking at their own chance of achieving legendary status next month, Wealdstone FC will this weekend pay homage to the class of 1966 - who etched their names into club folklore by winning The FA Amateur Cup under the Twin Towers.
Surviving players from the 1965/66 squad will be introduced to the crowd at The Vale before this weekend's final home league fixture of the Enterprise National League season (Saturday April 18, 3pm ko v Scunthorpe United).
Wealdstone beat Hendon 3-1 to lift The FA Amateur Cup on Saturday April 16, 1966 - exactly 60 years ago.
And now, this Saturday, gracing the pitch by leading the teams out of the tunnel will be the surviving quartet from that Stones' starting XI - Bernie Bremer, Eddie Dillsworth, Hughie Lindsay and Charlie Townsend - as well as Roy Lavender, Arthur Paisley and John Wortley, three reserves on the day who all played in earlier rounds.
What's more, some of these heroes are still regulars at The Vale in support of today's men in royal blue. Now that's true club loyalty.
So please can we ask the Stones' faithful to be inside the stadium by 2.50pm latest to ensure we pay a very special tribute to very special people.
Up The Stones!
