Wealdstone Football Club are thrilled to announce the signing of experienced goalkeeper Lucas Covolan!
The shot-stopper was born in Curitiba, Brazil and spent his youth playing for a Vasco da Gama team that included the likes of Philippe Coutinho.
He left the club, after winning caps for Brazil’s under-20 side, and joined Athlético Paranaense.
After a handful of appearances in the Brazilian lower leagues, Covolan moved to Europe in the summer of 2014. He first joined Atlético Rafal, before moving to Alaró the following season.
Covolan’s move to England came in 2016 as he played for Whitehawk, Lewes and Worthing before signing a professional contract with Torquay United.
He made 53 appearances across two seasons for the Gulls, famously scoring an injury-time equaliser in the 2020/21 National League playoff final and saving two penalties in the subsequent shootout.
His impressive performances in the National League earned him a move to Port Vale, where he played 21 league games as his new side won promotion from League Two.
After 13 games for Chesterfield during the 2022/23 season, Covolan joined Maidstone United in the summer of 2023. He starred for George Elokobi’s side, playing every minute of league football and being a key part of the club’s run to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Last season, he played 30 games in the National League for Braintree Town and Ebbsfleet United, before ending the season in the National League South with promotion-chasers Worthing.
