Sutton United may sit at the bottom of the National League table at the moment, but this does not paint a true picture of their ability as a team.
The U’s are embarking on their second consecutive campaign in the fifth tier after being relegated from League Two at the end of the 2023/24 season.
Preseason ambitions of winning promotion were quickly extinguished in the early weeks of the campaign, and Steve Morrison was removed as the club’s Head Coach.
The manager - Chris Agutter: Morrison was replaced in the dugout at Gander Green Lane by one of the most exciting young coaches in regional football, Chris Agutter.
The 37-year-old spent a considerable amount of time in youth coaching before getting his first managerial role with Hastings United in October 2017.
An initial four-year stint at the club was followed by moves back into youth football with Stevenage and Brighton and Hove Albion, though he returned to Hastings for the majority of the 2023/24 season.
In May 2024, Agutter moved to Worthing. He guided his new side to fourth place in the National League South before losing to Maidstone United in the playoffs.
He was appointed U’s manager at the start of the month, and they are unbeaten in 90 minutes after his first five games in charge.
The danger man - Brandon Njoku: A number of Sutton United attackers have produced improved performances following the appointment of Agutter. But Brandon Njoku is the one who stands out above the rest.
The 20-year-old arrived at Gander Green Lane in the summer, having made 32 appearances for then League One side Cambridge United last season.
Njoku struggled in the opening weeks of the season, and his first goal for the U’s only came two weeks ago.
However, he has now scored three times in his last four games, and his new manager looks to understand how to use his raw pace and instinctive finishing ability effectively.
