News From The Vale
Last week, the first team’s gym session was captured by summer signing and newfound fan favourite Nathan Tshikuna. Check out what he and the rest of the squad got up to here.
It is not just the Wealdstone mens’ team who are in action this weekend, but also the Wealdstone women’s side. They take on London Football School, as Saj Vigneswaran is looking for his side to push on after a solid start to the campaign.
Looking ahead, the Stones’ next game is against Yeovil Town on Tuesday, 4th November at Huish Park. For those unable to make the trip to Somerset, the match will be screened live in the Vale Social Club.
Fans will be entitled to a free drink, courtesy of new majority shareholder Nick Semaca, who is eager to chat with as many Stones fans as possible throughout the evening!
Finally, a reminder that our trip to FC Halifax Town has been moved to Sunday, 21st December, owing to DAZN TV broadcasting. The fixture will now kick off at 4pm.
Our man in form - Sak Hassan: After his sublime performance against Sutton United, the Stones' man in form is none other than Sak Hassan.
The young winger arrived at the Vale in the summer after strong performances in the lower tiers for AFC Sudbury and Hashtag United.
He has slightly struggled for consistent game time thus far, but has always been impactful off the bench and in the National League Cup.
The Somali international’s display against Sutton was somewhat of a coming-of-age performance.
Entering the fray early on after an injury to Junior Tiensia, Hassan was directly involved in all four of the Stones’ goals. He showed his excellent technique and one-on-one ability, as well as good composure to make a potentially tricky finish look easy.
Great work, Sak, keep it up!
The Opposition
Recent form: DWWWW
League Position: 6th
After a poor September in which they won just one of six league games, Southend came to life in October. The Shrimpers won all four of their matches and are currently the in-form side in the National League.
They sit in sixth place in the league, six points off Rochdale, though Jim McNulty’s side have played one game fewer.
Kevin Maher has not added to the Shrimpers’ ranks since they last visited the Vale, though there has been a change in goal, as Nick Hayes has started two of Southend’s last three games.
The manager - Kevin Maher: The team from Roots Hall are still led by Kevin Maher, who has now passed 200 games in charge of Southend.
In his pre-match interview, the 49-year-old acknowledged that the Vale is a “tough” place to travel to, and that the Stones are stacked with a number of “exciting” attacking talents.
Above all, he said that he was “looking forward to” the fixture and getting back into FA Cup action.
The danger man - Andy Dallas: When the Shrimpers last came to the Vale, fans were wary of the potential for destruction that Andy Dallas, in a Southend United shirt, possessed.
Since that night at the beginning of September, the 26-year-old has very much turned that potential into reality.
The Scotsman has scored five times in his last nine games, including in his last outing against Brackley Town. He now has more than twice as many league goals as any other Southend player, and sits seventh in the race for the National League Golden Boot.
