Wealdstone FC honoured at the Brunel University BSIP Annual Awards.
Richard Hopwood, Wealdstone FC's General Manager, was delighted to pick up the award for Manager of the Year this week, at the Brunel University BSIP awards ceremony.
The Brunel Summer Internship Programme is an employability focused project that offers paid internships for 8 weeks during the summer for eligible first year undergraduate students. The programme is funded by Brunel University London through their commitment to the Office for Students.
This was the first year Wealdstone FC took part in the programme with 2 students joining the club in July & August. The club were nominated for 3 awards in all reflecting the positive experiences the students had at the club.
Richard commented, “Firstly, I must thank the two students who joined the club Daniella Da Goia studying Sport, Health & Exercise Science and Tim Adjay studying economics and accounting. Both had a terrific attitude and threw themselves whole heartedly into the Internships. With hundreds of students taking part in the programme at organisations across West London, for Wealdstone to be nominated for 3 awards reflects how well the club stepped up to make this such a positive experience. A special thanks goes to Cameron Mawer and Dale Welch at the Wealdstone Academy and Brett Aherne and Stuart Maynard who allowed such great access to the first team environment for the students."

Wealdstone FC have a growing partnership with Brunel University London which includes The Wealdstone Academy Brunel Campus which is based at the University’s Sports Park and is home to over 100 Wealdstone football scholars and the base of the Wealdstone U23s team. Other links include Brunel HIVE, the business growth and engagement platform at Brunel University, The Brunel Language Centre where students can combine studying a language with training at the academy and Brunel Volunteers which provides a platform for personal growth, skill development and the chance for students to tap into their full potential.
