REPORT | WOKING 1-0 WEALDSTONE
Wealdstone suffer consecutive goalless National League defeats after a loss to Woking at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
Despite the Stones' relative dominance throughout, a penalty from Cian Harries, in the 30th minute, was the only goal of the game, handing the Stones another frustrating defeat.
Matt Taylor made four changes to the side that lost to York City last Saturday. Anthony Georgiou, Henry Sandat and Max Kretzschmar all returned to the side. Fulham loanee Callum McFarlane was handed his first start for the Stones.
The Stones began the game on the front foot, looking to break down Woking, and find a ball into the box from wide areas. Henry Sandat had a huge chance to score, after 18 minutes, when a perfect cross found his line-breaking run, only to head his effort the wrong side of the post and out for a goal-kick.
The home side would find themselves ahead, largely against the run of play, 30 minutes in, when Raheem Conte went down under the challenge of Enzio Boldewijn. Harries stepped up and found the back of the net, hitting his effort agonisingly close to the diving Archie Matthews.
Still looking to stay on the front foot, Taylor's side once again took the ball under their possession. Just five minutes after the opener, Enzio Boldewijn's cross found Callum McFarlane, but his header sailed over the Woking goal.
The home side came out looking to double their advantage instantly, a scything through ball found the darting run of Tom Leahy, but with all the time in the world to pick his spot, hit his effort well wide of Matthews' goal.
The game then fell back into a similar manner in which the first ended, with the Stones having a larger share of possession, but failing to find the final ball into their attackers.
Boldewijn, being deployed as a right-sided wing-back, took the game by the scruff of the neck in the 62nd minute, whipping a cross into the path of substitute Dom Hutchinson, but his touch on the stretch bobbled the wrong side of the post.
With the visitors ramping up the pressure, a chance that seemed to sum up the Stones luck came around the 80 minute mark, the ball fell into the path of McFarlane, who took a superb turn and hit his effort perfectly towards the corner, only to be denied by a wonder save from Will Jaaskelainen.
Another game for the Stones without a goal, who will look to bounce back when they travel to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday at 15:00pm.
