REPORT | WEALDSTONE 3-2 MILLWALL U21s
Updated: Jul 21
Wealdstone have their first victory of pre season after a dramatic 3-2 win over Millwall U21s at Grosvenor Vale.
Chin Ocoli put the visitors ahead early on when he towered above the Stones defensive unit from a corner and headed past Jacob Adams.
Micah Obiero levelled the score with a fine finish from the edge of box with 15 minutes to go until the break before Todd Miller put the Stones ahead when he capitalised on a rebound in the 62nd minute.
The young Lions found themselves level in the 68th minute when a Trialist hammered an effort past Adams into the top corner.
But Trae Cook-Appiah was on hand to snatch the win at the death when his deflected effort hit the back of the net in the 90th minute.
With pre-season in full-flow, Matt Taylor made changes aplenty to the starting lineup that faced Notts County in midweek. Adams, Deon Woodman, Luke Dreher, Alex Dyer, Sam Ashford, Todd Miller, Dom Hutchinson and a Trialist all came into the starting XI.
A slow start to the game saw the Stones fall behind after just four minutes when the imperious Ocoli stuck a bullet header past Adams from a corner.
Obiero was the first Stones man to test Jakub Prezwozny in the Millwall goal when he looked to flick the ball into the back of the net, but his effort lacked the power to truly test the keeper.
The Stones no.14 would find his goal when he received the ball around the edge of the box in the 32nd minute and finished well to level the game.
Very involved in proceedings, Obiero would once again go close to finding the back of the net just after half-time when he cut inside and smashed an effort towards the top corner, that sailed narrowly wide.
The Stones would take the lead for the first time in the game in the 62nd minute when Todd Miller was in the right place to finish after a parry from the keeper fell straight into the path of the Wealdstone winger.
In the nature of the game that was being played at the Vale, Millwall U21s were quick to hit back, in the 68th minute, when a Trialist stormed forward and rifled an effort into the back of the net from close range.
Having made strong changes midway through the second-half, the Stones dominated the final proceedings of the game and were rewarded for their efforts when Cook-Appiah picked the ball up on the edge of the box and hit and effort that deflected into the back of the net, with literally the last kick of the game to snatch the win.
With the first win of pre season now under their belts, the Stones will face Crawley Town at home in their next game on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
WEALDSTONE XI: Adams (GK), Cesay (Trialist B 45'), Barrett (Cook 45'), Woodman, Trialist A (Mason 72'), Dyer (Trialist C 45'), Dreher (Simmons 72'), Miller (Boldewijn 72'), Obiero (Kretzschmar 72'), Hutchinson (Cook-Appiah 72'), Ashford (Adarkwa 72').
