Wealdstone beat Leicester City U21s 2-1 at Grosvenor Vale to notch their second successive win in the National League Cup.
Sam Cox made six changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Gateshead on Saturday, with Lucas Covolan, Marcus Day, Mussa Diarra, Sak Hassan, Omar Mussa, and Junior Tiensia named in the starting line-up.
A first-half goal from Hassan, along with a second half header from Max Kretzschmar sealed victory for the Stones to stretch their 100% record in the competition this season.
On the 24th minute mark, the Stones broke the deadlock in superb style, with Hassan scoring directly from an inswinging corner to put his side ahead.
Against the run of play, the Foxes equalised in the 38th minute, as Briggs fired past Lucas Covolan from inside the box to restore parity.
Moments later, Briggs seized possession high up the pitch and squared the ball across the box, but Mussa Diarra was well-positioned to clear the danger.
One minute before the stroke of half-time, Wealdstone galvanised a attack, with Marcus Day shooting from range, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.
In the 54th minute, Mussa latched onto the ball, drove forward and curled shot from distance that flew just over the bar.
Cox rolled the dice with two substitutions in the 63rd minute as Max Kretzschmar and the Trialist replaced Day and Hassan.
The Stones nearly took the lead in the 65th minute as Anthony Georgiou whipped in a dangerous corner which was headed just over the crossbar by Diarra.
Bolstered by the changes, Wealdstone were agonisingly close to forging ahead in the 69th minute as Micah Obiero’s pinpoint cross was volleyed on target by the Trialist, however the Foxes goalkeeper produced a solid save to deny the winger.
Wealdstone continued to press for a second goal and Georgiou looked like he might make the breakthrough in the 78th minute, drilling a powerful effort towards goal that drew a quick reaction save from the Foxes’ shot-stopper.
With five minutes remaining, the Stones deservedly took the lead, as substitute Kretzschmar rose highest to head home past the Foxes’ custodian.
Cox’s side looked like adding another goal in the 87th minute as Tiensia struck a powerful effort from range, but the visitors’ goalkeeper was equal to the effort.
A minute later, Alfie Massey pummelled a strike from 30-yards, but the midfielder’s shot flew just over the crossbar.
Wealdstone return to league action on Saturday 20th September when they travel to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium to face Morecambe, in a 3pm kick-off.
