REPORT | WEALDSTONE 0-1 TAMWORTH

Will Beaman

Ten-man Wealdstone were defeated by Tamworth in a crucial game at Grosvenor Vale.

Max Kretzschmar was given his dismissal orders in the 67th minute when he picked up two yellow cards in just five minutes.

Beck-Ray Enoru hit the Stones with a sucker-punch in the 73rd minute after a quick break from Tamworth.

Neil Gibson made just two changes to the side that drew with Solihull Moors in his first game in charge. Josh Grant and Max Kretzschmar came into the side, replacing Craig Eastmond and Connor McAvoy.

The Lambs started fast, almost going ahead straight from the off through Enoru, just one minute in, when the speedy winger cut inside, only to see his shot blocked and out for a corner.

The visitors pushed for an early goal, but the early stages of the game then became played in essence of a chess match, with both teams looking to figure each other out.

As the half grew on, the Stones began to find their openings and get their shots away. Kallum Cesay looked a real danger in and around the Tamworth area, seeing two shots go close to opening the scoring around the 35 minute mark.

Despite the Stones growing in confidence, Tamworth were always dangerous on the attack. Luca Gunter was called into his busiest Stones game so far, making his first save after Dan Creaney tried his luck, 40 minutes in.

The Stones looked desperate to end the half with a goal, seeing an effort from Sam Ashford saved by Jas Singh, before Max Kretzschmar opted to look for the pass rather than going for goal when played two-on-one.

The second-half instantly came to life when Creaney popped up in the area once more, forcing a diving save out of Gunter from the off.

Looking to quickly build on their late second half dominance, the Stones went straight down the other end, almost going ahead when Cesay plucked the ball down, but fired his effort narrowly wide.

Gunter produced a wonder save once again from Creaney, emphasising the danger on the break from the Lambs, before Ben Milne smacked an effort off the crossbar direct from a free-kick.

But the Stones continued to push for the opening goal. Sam Ashford came close with an effort after cutting in on his left-foot, before Alex Reid saw his chance go narrowly wide.

The game changing moment came in the 65th minute when Kretzschmar was given his marching orders.

Two yellow cards in the space of five minute saw the midfielder heading for an early shower and leaving the Stones down to ten.

Despite going down to ten men, Gibson's side continued to press for the first goal, making them susceptible for the counter-attack. The opener came after Enoru and Creaney combined in the area to set winger up for a tap-in.

The visitors played out the rest of the half in professional fashion, limiting the Stones chances of an equaliser and seeing out the win.

WEALDSTONE XI: Gunter, Boldewijn, Cook, Mundle-Smith, Georgiou, Grant, Cesay, Sohna, Kretzschmar, Ashford (Obiero 75'), Reid.
