ree

The match between Scunthorpe United and Wealdstone was abandoned in the 78th minute with the score 2-1 at the time.

Enzio Boldewijn opened the scoring just four minutes in before a sublime volley from Alfie Beestin nestled into the top corner to level the score.

Danny Whitehall was on hand to head home The Iron’s second goal, four minutes before half time.

Sam Cox made just one change to the side that ended Southend United’s unbeaten start to the season in midweek. Omar Mussa returned to the Starting XI replacing Daniel Nkrumah.

The perfect start for the Stones saw them in control within five minutes. A beautifully worked move saw Phillip Chinedu played down the left-flank, allowing him to float the ball into Boldewijn, who headed the Stones in front.

With the Stones controlling the majority share of possession early on, Cox’s side were able to carve out an opening, 14 minutes in. Down the flanks once more, a ball was flashed across goal, narrowly missing Adarkwa but finding Anthony Georgiou, who fired over.

As the half grew on, the home side looked to create more chances. Dante Baptiste had to be on hand in quick succession, denying Callum Roberts twice.

Scunthorpe would eventually make a breakthrough, after a spell of pressure on the Stones goal. A loose ball fell to Beestin on the edge of the area, who hit a sublime volley into the top corner to level things up.

The Stones looked to react straight away, getting the ball into Adarkwa, inside the area, who fired over the bar.

But once more the hosts would push for a second, having tested Baptiste moments before, 41 minutes in. An inch-perfect ball from Roberts found Whitehall in the area, who headed Scunthorpe ahead into the break.

The second-half started slowly for both sides, with the first real chance of the half falling to the Stones. The ball sat up kindly for substitute Nkrumah, who’s effort fell kindly into the hands of Watson.

As the game grew on, legs began to get tired and spaces began to open. Scunthorpe came close to making it three, 74 minutes in, when Roberts was played in on goal. He opted to square the ball rather shoot, overcooking his pass into a Stones defender.

With ten minutes to go, a collision between a Scunthorpe United defender and Nkrumah saw the latter fall awkwardly onto his shoulder, causing a lengthy delay in the game while the forward received treatment.

With the game delayed and then suspended for over 40 minutes while Daniel recieved treatment, it was eventually abandoned.

We wish Daniel all the best in his recovery.

Wealdstone XI: Baptiste (GK), Cook (Hassan 76’), Georgiou, Mussa (Obiero 68’), Woodman, Boldewijn, Kadji (Hutchinson 76’), Chinedu, Tshikuna (Nkrumah 57’), Massey, Adarkwa.
