REPORT | BOSTON UNITED 2-1 WEALDSTONE

ree

Wealdstone suffer their second loss in a row, following defeat at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

Lenell John-Lewis put the hosts ahead just a few minutes after the break before Micah Obiero was on hand to head home the equaliser, with just 20 minutes to play.

Ten minutes later, Greg Sloggett popped up in the right position to trickle the ball home and give his side their second victory of the season.

Being the second game in just three days, Sam Cox opted for multiple changes to his starting lineup from the defeat against Carlisle United. Phillip Chinedu, Obiero, Nathan Tshikuna and Omar Mussa all came into the XI.

Looking to take the lead early on, Cox’s side came closest just four minutes in. Tshikuna shifted onto his left foot on the edge of the area and dinked one off the wrong side of the crossbar.

With the majority share of possession, the Stones carried on probing the Boston defence. Once again, Tshikuna came close to opening the scoring from range, forcing a strong save out of Rhys Lovett.

Minutes before the break, the visitors conjured up their first shot of the game, with Michael Kelly looking to test Baptiste from a free-kick, only finding the comfortable hands of the Stones keeper.

Despite the Stones first-half dominance, the visitors were quick to take their big chances. National League veteran John-Lewis was on hand to tap home, 48 minutes in, following impressive work down the right from Kieran Donnelly.

Once more, Cox’s side continued to probe, this time in search of an equaliser. Substitute Daniel Nkrumah looked to make an instant impact, 61 minutes in, firing just wide on his favoured left foot.

The eventual pressure would pay off for the Stones after delightful ball into the path of Obiero, who headed towards the back post and into the back of the net to level things up.

Just one minute after equalising, the Stones forward was inches away from putting his side ahead with an almost identical chance, this time heading onto the post.

But it wouldn’t take long for Boston to retake the lead. With just ten minutes to go, a scrambled set-piece eventually fell into the path of Sloggett, who trickled the ball into the back of the net.

Wealdstone fought back once more in search of a second equaliser. Late chances fell the way of Kretzschmar and Boldewijn, who both fired narrowly wide of the target.

Next up for the Stones, back to the Vale on Saturday to take on Rochdale at 3pm.

WEALDSTONE XI: Baptiste, Cook (Hutchinson 60’), Georgiou (Hassan 90’), Mussa (Kretzschmar 78’), Woodman, Boldewijn, Obiero, Chinedu, Tshikuna, Massey, Adarkwa (Nkrumah 60’).
