GARY WADDOCK reflected the frustration of players and supporters alike as Wealdstone couldn't make the most of their chances against a rejuvenated Morecambe at The Vale.
The Shrimps won 3-2, but the scoreline could have had a very one-sided look by half-time if Stones had maximised the benefit of purposeful build-up and an up-tempo approach to the game.
"If you don't take your chances you get punished", rued new Royals' boss Waddock after his first match at the helm.
"They're a good side and with a new manager who knows the club really well and they've put in some good performances lately," he added of visitors Morecambe, who completed a high-scoring league double over Wealdstone.
"Maybe their extra experience also played a factor, but we wouldn't be analysing that so much if we'd made more of the opportunities we created - especially before the break."
Waddock argued is players will reap greater rewards if they can maintain the performance levels of the first 45 and add that finishing touch more often than just Fela Olomola's early close-range goal.
He added: "We need to be more clinical and I feel for the players tonight; they should have got something out of the game."
Coming in mid-season, with the club having already recruited for a system and formation, Waddock didn't think it was right to change too much too soon.
"But I'll have a look at things over the next few days and we'll work hard to be spot-on when we head to Braintree on Saturday.
