News from The Vale

Wealdstone are looking for their first win of the campaign after a challenging start which continued with a narrow defeat to Worthing last time out after Dylan Kadji recieved a second booking.

The mood from the camp remains optimistic, however, with Olufela Olomola insisting that results will come as this new squad starts to gel. Watch his full interview HERE.

The Stones go into the game without the suspended Kadji and the injured Jack Cook, while it remains to be seen if Joe Newton and Mason Barrett have fully shaken off their recent knocks.

After a delay in the delivery process, physical season cards have now arrived and will be available to collect from the ticket office in the build-up to today's game.

The bar will also be open from 5:00 pm ahead of kick-off, so be sure to get to the ground early and soak in the atmosphere as the bank holiday begins.

If The Stones are going to pick up their first three points of the season, one of the most likely routes to victory will be through the creativity of Kyle Smith.

After being introduced as a substitute at Fylde, the right wing-back regularly got past his man and delivered inviting crosses, eventually picking up an assist via the head of Luke Norris.

He backed up this performance with a solid run-out in the National League Cup, creating several chances with his accurate deliveries from wide positions against Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s.

Gary Waddock rewarded the 22-year-old with his first league start of the campaign against Worthing last weekend. Although the match ended in defeat, Smith was heavily involved in The Stones’ attacking play again. This time he demonstrated his threat from long throws, which caused panic in the Worthing penalty area and could have easily led to a goal with better luck on the day.

The opposition

Familiar opponents Carlisle United arrive having also had a mixed start to the campaign, currently sitting in 12th position.

Their campaign got off to the worst possible start with a 3-2 defeat at home to Worthing before they were restricted to a point on the road away to Yeovil Town. Things look to have clicked for the Cumbrians last weekend, however, as they hammered newly-promoted Hornchurch 4-1.

After an impressive campaign last season ended in disappointment, Rob Elliott was brought in over the summer to replace Mark Hughes as Carlisle look to return to the Football League at the second time of asking.
