Broadcast Information: The game will be available to watch live via DAZN
What Has Been Going On At The Vale?
Due to the short turnaround between games, the only major piece of action to report on is the Stones’ narrow one-nil defeat at the hands of Carlisle.
Playing in front of the DAZN TV cameras, Sam Cox’s men put in a respectable performance, but came out on the wrong side of the scoreline courtesy of Luke Armstrong’s 19th-minute header.
The result sees the Stones slide to sixth place in the National League table, though only four teams have conceded fewer goals than the team from Grosvenor Vale this campaign.
Sam Cox said that he was ‘gutted’ to lose against the Cumbrians, especially given that the winning goal was scored from a set piece. You can find Coxy’s full post-match interview here.
Alfie Massey, who was named as Man of the Match, believes that the Stones were ‘unlucky’ to come out of the game with nothing. The Millwall loanee’s full interview can be found here.
In case you have missed it, episode two of DAZN’s exclusive documentary series about the club, ‘Rolling With The Stones’, is out now. You can watch the series here.
The Opposition
Recent form: WWWLL
Stones fans will be very familiar with Boston United, as they were one of the teams who were fighting for survival alongside Wealdstone at the backend of last season.
This season marks the start of their second consecutive campaign in the National League, though the early weeks of the season have been slightly disrupted.
Due to the off-field issues at Morecambe, who they were due to play on the opening day, the Pilgrims played two National League Cup games in the opening days of the season, whilst most other clubs have played just once in the competition thus far.
In the league, they have picked up three points from three games. They beat Aldershot Town in their first league game of the season before losing to Halifax Town and, most recently, Eastleigh. Boston currently sit in 18th place in the fifth tier.
The manager - Graham Coughlan: Before Coughlan arrived in Lincolnshire, the Pilgrims’ relegation back to the sixth tier of football looked all but confirmed.
However, our hosts on Saturday went on an incredible run under the Irishman that saw them pick up 1.6 points per game and finish in 19th place, three points clear of relegation.
This season, the Pilgrims have gone full-time and signed a number of exciting players.
The danger man - Lenell John-Lewis: One of the exciting players signed by Boston this summer is powerful striker Lenell John-Lewis.
‘The Shop’, as he is affectionately nicknamed, has played over 200 games in the fifth tier whilst also having extensive experience in League One and League Two.
After 140 appearances and 35 goals, he left York City in the summer and moved to the Jakemans Community Stadium.
John-Lewis has started this season well, scoring twice in three league games, and his strength and experience are a problem for any defender in the league.
